About Moyo Moringa

Moyo Moringa started with a gift of five seeds which we planted in 2013 on our small farm, located in the Hennops River Valley near Pretoria.

All five germinated and thrived despite frost, drought and the frequent traffic of wildebeest, impala and rabbits.

This encouraged us to research the plant further and our discoveries ignited a passion to provide and promote this ‘miracle tree’ in South Africa. We planted more seeds and 2 years later, despite its preference to sub-tropical conditions, we are proud owners of a beautiful plantation of about 4500 trees. Our trees are fed organic compost and thrive under the daily care of workers.

We refine dried Moringa leaves into a high-quality powder. The powder has evolved into other products.

Moyo Moringa was established in 2014 by two ladies named Sandra and Rika. We named it ‘Moyo’ as this derives from the Malawian word: ‘Life’.

Origins of Moringa

Moringa Oleifera, also known as the Drumstick Tree, is a fast-growing and drought-resistant tree native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas and northwestern India. Records show Moringa being used in Indian medicine some 5,000 years ago. It is described as a medicinal herb, as far back as 2000 BC, in the Indian Ayurvedic and is said to help prevent more than three hundred diseases. The Moringa tree soon spread from India throughout Asia to China and the Philippines, developing a reputation which earned its name ‘ The Miracle Tree’.
